The Central Sterile Services Survey

The Central Sterile Services Survey. An ICAN Project. (Lead, Mr Boniface Hakizimana, Rwanda). Do we know what our sterile services are like in Africa? Are our patients safe in our healthcare facilities?

It is suggested that potentially 15% of all blood borne virus infections in Africa are related to the inadequate reprocessing of reusable medical device- a vital step towards protecting patient safety during surgical interventions.

Why is ICAN asking you to participate in this survey ?

The are very few studies carried out in the field of decontamination and sterilization of reusable medical devices in Africa, thus the current situation of sterile services in Africa remains unknown. This survey will help to establish needs in Africa for sterile services education programmes towards improving patient safety.
